Here's one of the most popular places on the eastern shore. Like so many other lakeside towns, it was in the 19th century that Luino began to develop its tourist potential, becoming a popular destination. Its original name "Luvino" evokes the traditional Wednesday market held here since 1541! A walk along the banks of the lake(lungolago), lined with centuries-old plane trees, is a must. Luino's well-preserved historic center boasts a number of fine period palaces and ancient churches; not to be missed: the 1882 railway station and the church of San Pietro in Campagna.
