Nexø is the second largest town on the island and is a port of call for ferries linking Bornholm to Poland, as well as being the largest fishing port on the island. Fishing is therefore an important part of the economy. A distillery (Bornholmske Spiritfabrik ApS) and a mustard factory (Bornholmersennep ApS) complete the local activities. The town does not offer as much charm as other island villages, it was heavily damaged by Soviet bombing during the Second World War, but it has the longest beach, Dueodde, located south of the city, famous for its fine white sand.
