When you arrive in this town, don't be fooled by appearances... Get away from the train station and the harbour, which are located in an unattractive environment. Ystad is in fact a quiet and lovely town full of charm. At the heart of the town is a 13th century Franciscan monastery, from which the monks were expelled around 1530 during the Reformation. After housing a hospital in the 16th century and a distillery in the 18th century, the imposing brick building later became a granary, before finally being saved from demolition and restored to become a museum displaying the region's cultural heritage. The town is also known for its film studios, where many famous national productions are filmed.
