25 km southwest of Riobamba. The road goes along this immense lagoon whose waters shimmer under the sun. The panorama has a somewhat desolate charm, a vast expanse where herds graze. The lake, bordered by swamps, is wedged between the railway and the village. In its waters are reflected the Chimborazo on a clear day, the railway line and the city of Cajabamba. This beautiful lagoon is known in the Puruhá language as Kulta Kucha, which means Duck Lagoon. The lagoon of Colta is unique, from Loja to Quito there is no other lagoon with such an easy access, crossed by the railway and the Panamericana
