About 50 km south of Riobamba, at an altitude of 3 100 m (bring a sweater!). This picturesque town has retained an undeniable colonial charm, with its old church, its narrow streets, its houses with balconies in faded colours. Here, 95% of the inhabitants are indigenous, as shown by the parade of red ponchos in the alleys, especially at the time of the big local market. Every Thursday morning, the village holds one of the most important markets in Ecuador. On the stalls, potatoes, corn, beans, peas, barley... But they also sell livestock, including the famous cuyes (guinea pigs)
