Travel Guide Guano

12 km north of Riobamba. Here is a pretty and peaceful village founded in 1570. Note that Guano is one of the oldest population nuclei in Ecuador, and existed long before the arrival of the Spaniards. The local handicraft tradition is the manufacture of carpets, famous in all countries. Small weaving workshops can be found on every street corner and it is interesting to observe the skill of the local weavers. It is possible to buy coloured carpets and tapestries, as well as blankets. Prefer the workshops to the shops. You can also find leather goods, especially shoes. The market takes place on Sundays.
