Ingapirca, 80 km north of Cuenca, at an altitude of 3,100 m and covering 20 ha, is the main archaeological site of the country. It would seem, given its architectural style, that the site was built by the Cañaris and the Incas between the years 500 and 1532. The main elements of the archaeological site are the Adoratory, the apartments, the square, the Condamine sector, Pillaloma, the Collcas... At 500 m from the ruins is a museum containing a collection of 2,472 pieces of ceramics, metals and stones dating from the Nariño, Cañar and Inca civilizations. Below, you can see the profile of an Inca character carved naturally in the stone. The village is reached by a small road in good condition that crosses a landscape of crops, meadows, eucalyptus and resinous trees, where cows and llamas graze. Ingapirca is the ideal starting point to discover the Inca Trail.
