Rich in crops (sugar cane, citrus) and gold mines exploited since the Inca period, the valley contains villages full of history: Girón, where the Treaty of Girón was signed after the victory of the forces of Gran Colombia over Peru; San Fernando, west of Girón; Santa Isabel, whose origins date back to around the year 1,000; and San Juan Bautista de Pucará (on the right, towards Machala, going up the mountain range), which was an Inca fortress; from this beautiful colonial village, one can strategically dominate the coastal region. The inhabitants of Cuenca like to spend their holidays in this beautiful valley.
