36 km east of Cuenca. About 42 000 people. The picturesque town is situated on the banks of the river Santa Bárbara, in a beautiful valley with a subtropical climate (average 16,5 ° C). It is surrounded by the Monts mountains, Cushín, Achupallas, Cordillera Cordillera, among others. A very fertile land, Gualaceo is called the "Jardin de l'Azuay". Its foundation, dating back to 1540, precedes that of Cuenca.
