It is located 40 km north of Cuenca, on the Cuenca-Azogues road. This village in the province of Cañar is irrigated by the Burgay River. Biblían is mainly known for its agricultural activity, although it is also characterized by its mining activity with its marble (Mangán) and coal (San Luis) quarries. Its main tourist attraction is the lime and stone sanctuary nestled on steep rocks on the town's western hill. It was erected in honour of the Virgin of Rocío in 1886. The climate of Biblian is cold and humid but its soil is so fertile that it has been given the nickname of Cantón Verde del Austro Ecuatoriano.
