Turi (Toriyc) in Quichua means "viewpoint". This hill to the south of Cuenca offers a panoramic view of the city. Here lies a cave in which, according to legend, the "Lord of Belen" appeared many years ago and is venerated by the Cañaris, who come every December and January to make offerings to him. The story goes that, once at Cuenca Cathedral, the Lord preferred to return and spend the night at Turi. Once up there, you'll also find a few restaurants and a chapel. Don't forget your camera or smartphone, as the view lends itself to some superb shots.
