Near to Sées, Le Bouillon would have his name, for some, of the Latin betullia, boulai, for others of the old French Broth, quagmire. Both hypotheses agree on wet soil. At the foot of the forest massif of Tarves, this commune has long lived from the forest. Loggers, carbmakers or tanners would earn their income. On the other hand, like neighboring municipalities, Le Bouillon is located on a ground of primary rocks and has seen many careers.Other historical traces remain. The venerable if of the graveyard of which the branches were cut to decorate the city of May 31, 1811 during the passage of Napoleon I, always visible, still bears the stigma caused by the fall of the tower of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church (sixteenth century) of the Bouillon, known for its beautiful Romanesque nef. Indeed, the tower that she lived in 1826 collapsed damaging the tree in his fall. The commune also keeps memory of an episode of the Second World War. In the forest, at the crossroads of the Médavy Cross, a part of which is on communal territory, one can see the American tank Sherman commemorating the fight against a detachment from the 2 nd DB to the 9 th Panzerdivision on August 12, 1944.
