In 1786, passing through Limone, Goethe was astonished by these terraced greenhouses rich in lemons. Today's visitor will be charmed by the olive trees and ancient greenhouses. The name of this village, wedged between the lake and the cliff, is often associated with lemon trees(limoni), but in reality it derives from the Latin limen (border) and has nothing to do with citrus fruit. Limone has the charm of an old village, with buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries alternating with fishermen's houses. An interesting stopover before reaching Riva del Garda and Trentino, especially with the arrival of the cycle path.
