In the direction of the Apennines or in the Po valley, the landscape around Parma is dominated by the silhouettes of numerous castles. This is the case in Torrechiara, a small village which, from the top of its hill, dominates the valley of the river Parma. This charming village emerges around an impressive 15th century castle protected by 3 successive circles of surrounding walls. At the foot of the castle, by the river, you can visit the abbey. Twenty-two castles scattered throughout the territory of the provinces of Parma and Piacenza can be visited with a pass entitling you to discounts on entrance fees but also in restaurants and hotels (castellidelducato.it).
