The port of Polače is one of the oldest settlements on the island of Mljet. It's here that most visitors arrive, as if in a single mass, at the tourist office, located close to the boat arrivals. It's a quiet, attractive little village facing the sea, just a stone's throw from the pay point of the national park. It's a great base from which to explore the surrounding area, and it's here that a number of ferries dock in season. From Polače, there's easy access (on foot, by shuttle bus or by bike) to the National Park's salt lakes.
