Located 30 km south of Zadar, this town was influential in the Middle Ages. In 1102, the capital of the Hungarian kings of Croatia celebrated the coronation of King Koloman. Looted and razed several times, the historic city retains some traces of its medieval grandeur, preserved in the Basilica of St. John, which survived the Venetian raids (1125), and in the municipal museum. Tucked away on the peninsula, the old town can be explored through a maze of narrow streets. In this labyrinth, stroll between the town hall, the Svete Stošije church and the museum. The town is largely open to the sea (large marina) and has become a family-friendly seaside resort.
