Remarkable by its architecture, Valognes keeps splendid residences of character and beautiful old vestiges, but the allied bombardments of June 20, 1944 cause heavy damage. However, Valognes was rebuilt in local stone and has a rich architectural heritage. It is known as the "Norman Versailles". Today, if the city has its own character, its proximity to the Cherbourg agglomeration makes it a peripheral city, as evidenced by the very dense traffic between the two cities. With a population of 7,000 and good road and rail links, Valognes is easily visited without hesitation.
