Grouville is a small farming parish on the island's south-east coast, where tomatoes have long been grown. The main reason for visiting Grouville is its beautiful sandy beach, "the Bay of Grouville", to which Queen Victoria added the flattering title of "Royal" on the occasion of her visit in 1859. It's sure to delight windsurfers, but beware: it borders the "passage de la Déroute"! This passage is infamous for the many shipwrecks that have occurred there, and for the dangers to sailors of venturing into this maritime sector, where a strong wind meets the current that follows the west coast of the Cotentin peninsula, and the currents from the Atlantic Ocean that flow between Jersey and Guernsey, on the one hand, and between Alderney and Guernsey, on the other. This small parish will also attract birdwatchers: the moorland features a seaside marsh which is home to waders. Last but not least, the parish will delight all walkers.
