Carentan-les-Marais is nicknamed the "capital of the marshes": right in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional des marais, the marshes forming an inland sea that surrounds the town in summer, Carentan-les-Marais is well worth a visit. Its medieval arcades sheltering shops, the Ponthergé and Hervieu-de-Pontlouis hotels, the Notre-Dame church whose steeple can be seen for miles, and its vast town hall are all places worth discovering. Connected to the sea by a canal, it also boasts an attractive marina in its center. In 2024, the town and surrounding area will be the scene of numerous events to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
