The Cotentin region is synonymous with the sea, the coastline and the beaches: one would almost forget the towns nestled in the bocage, including Bricquebec-en-Cotentin. The town is largely linked to Viking history, if only by its etymology. In the 14th century, Bricquebec fell under the yoke of the King of Navarre, then the English occupation still dominated the site until 1450, when Bricquebec was an important political and commercial centre. Today, Bricquebec-en-Cotentin (the long name is the result of the merger with neighbouring communes) is a large and mostly quiet town, except on Mondays, when the very large market, dominated by the keep, takes place
