North of Bhaktapur, this large medieval complex lost in the middle of the countryside, at the top of a steep hill, may surprise at first sight. However, it is home to a temple of great beauty, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its age. The temple suffered badly in the 2015 earthquake, but renovations are now almost complete. One of the small museums that once stood here has recently reopened, and is well worth a visit. To get to Changu Narayan, it's a 20-minute cab ride from Bhaktapur up into the surrounding hills on the road to Nagarkot.
