The Kokee Rainforest, 1,700 ha in size, is only 25 km from Waimea town, and at the end of Highway 550. It is the rainiest place on Kauai, so bring a K-way or a fleece: it is much cooler than on the coast. Many plants and trees native to Hawaii make up the Kokee forest. Deer, wild boar and goats are the main animals that live there. Kokee Park is home to a natural history museum, a camp with cabins and many hiking trails. Recently the parking lot of the park has been charged (US$ 10) and soon the entrance will be charged (US$ 5 per person).
