Stay : One week in Kauai

If you stay one week in Hawaii, it's better to focus on one of the four most important islands. Due to a fairly strenuous time lag, it is tiring to fly almost immediately to another island. Here is a stay entirely dedicated to Kauai.

Day 1: Lihue>

Steps: Lihue

Arrival at Lihue Airport the day before or the very morning. It is advisable to take a hotel in Lihue to spend a whole day on the surrounding beaches. In the morning, visit the Kauai Museum and the Grove Farm Homestead Museum. At noon, go to the port of Lihue, the Nawiliwili Harbor, and bathe in Kalapaki Beach. Choose one of the port's restaurants for lunch and enjoy a magnificent sea view. In the afternoon, visit the Kilohana Plantation (former house of sugar plantation owner) and then go to the Wailua Falls. In the evening, dine and enjoy a drink at the port of Lihue because nightlife is lively there.

Day 2: Waimea Canyon

Steps: Waimea Canyon State Park

Leave early in the morning to travel to the Waimea Canyon (1h). The Waimea Canyon is a must in Kauai! With its rocky mountains with stunning landforms, it was nicknamed the Grand canyon of the Pacific. Stop at the two most beautiful view points of the canyon: Waimea Lookout and Puu Hina Hina Lookout. Complete this approach with a hike in the canyon (from to 1 hour and half to 3 hours in its form). Plan a picnic.

Day 3: Poipu and Wailua State Park

Steps: Wailua State Park, Kapaa, Poipu

Spend the day on the divine sandy beaches of the luxurious resort town of Poipu to rest your muscles. Walk the Maha'ulepu Trail and picnic on its wild beach. Drive to Kapaa and stop at Opaekaa Falls and Lydgate Beach

MAHA'ULEPU HERITAGE TRAIL

Day 4: The north coast, from Hanalei to Haena

Steps: Hanalei, Haena

In the morning, swim on the various beaches of Hanalei, with, why not, an initiation to surfing or windsurfing. In the afternoon, take Highway 56 west to Haena where the road ends. Swim and sunbathe on the beautiful beaches around Haena. In the early evening, return to Hanalei.

Day 5: Napali Coast

Steps: Na Pali Coast

The sharp, green mountains of the sublime Napali Coast are not accessible by road. There are three ways to get there: by foot, by sea or by air. If you choose to hike, you have to spend the whole day there (do not go if it rained the day before or if it is raining, otherwise you could fall to your death because of the slippery ground). It is the same case if you go by kayak or boat. Only the helicopter flight takes only one hour, but it would be a pity to be satisfied with it.

Day 6: Kokee Forest

Steps: Kokee State Park

Hiking in the Kokee Forest. Discovery of the endemic fauna and flora on one of the many trails. Preferably, make a guided hike because the forest is thick and a guide will explain to you all the specificities of this forest at best.

Day 7: Return to Lihue

Steps: Lihue, Wailua State Park

Return to Lihue to fly and making a kayak stopover on the Wailua River and visit of Fern Grotto.
