Easily accessible, Lanai City (population 3,135) is the only town on Lanai; it is where all the island's inhabitants are concentrated! With its small streets with colorful houses and little traffic - there are no traffic lights - Lanai City is a picturesque village where everyone has known each other for generations. Nearly all the residents have ancestors who worked on the Dole pineapple plantation, established on the island in the early 20th century. In fact, if James Dole decided to build Lanai City in 1922, it was primarily to house his workers. There are stores, art galleries and restaurants.
