The wild and unspoilt landscapes of the Kalaupapa peninsula are of great beauty. The descent on foot or on the back of mule to the village of Kalaupapa is the main attraction of the island. For nearly a century, however, Kalaupapa remained cut off from the world because it housed a community of lepers who lived there, rejected by all. Some descendants still reside there today. The visit of Kalaupapa and its village remains etched in memory, so the story of its inhabitants is shocking.
