The town of Eunice was born of one man's dream in the late 1800s. At an auction, C. C. Duson, the parish sheriff, bought 160 acres (65 hectares) of land around the railroad tracks and named it after his wife, Eunice Pharr Duson. He divided the land, established a boulevard in its center and laid out streets. On September 12, 1894, Eunice became a village and a year later a city. Major restaurants and points of interest are located around2nd Street, Park Avenue and South CC Duson Street, including the Cajun Music Hall of Fame, the Eunice Depot Museum and the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center.
