Jeanerette was founded at the beginning of the 19th century (incorporated in 1878) and developed thanks to sawmills and the sugar cane trade. Even today, the sugar crop is the main income of this small town. A brochure with a detailed itinerary of a walk entitled "Historic Jeanerette Trail", marking the main points of interest, can be picked up at the New Iberia tourist office (or consulted directly on its website). On site, we recommend a visit to the Jeanerette Museum to discover the city's past and for gourmet stops, LeJeune's Bakery and Cooper Street.
