Breaux Bridge is a pretty town located less than 10 miles east of Lafayette and bordered by the Atchafalaya River Basin. The town's economy is based on tourism and crawfish fishing, which are prolific in the waters of the basin. People come here to stroll down the main street, where there is a succession of antique stores, and to see what the city looks like. It was named "Crayfish Capital of the World" by the Louisiana legislature in 1959. Each year, in late April and early May, Breaux Bridge hosts the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. Also not to be missed is the beautiful Lake Martin, which can be explored on foot, by boat or by kayak.
