Located in a curve of the Teche Bayou on the Old Spanish Trail, the town of Franklin, founded in 1808, developed with the production of sugar cane and salt. Then came the French, Acadian and English settlers, and as early as 1835, the first sternwheelers started to come and refuel there. The town has preserved some beautiful historic Greek Renaissance style homes, as well as houses built at the time of the arrival of the railroad. If you pass through Franklin, take a walk along Main Street/Highway 182, under its oak archway, along the Teche Bayou, and imagine the life of the planters at the rhythm of the steamboats...
