The Plateaux Batéké National Park has existed under this name since 2002, but has been the focus of research and conservation work since the opening of CIRMF, particularly with regard to the gorilla rehabilitation programme. The last wildlife refuge of the Teke region, they contain the greatest diversity of birds in Gabon and gorillas accustomed to humans. There is also a species that is only found in this area: Grimm's duiker, also called ntsa. But also the teke cisticole (endemic species), the blue duiker with yellow back, black stripe or white belly, the striped jackal, the moustac monkey, elephants, bushpigs (rarer), crocodiles and monitors. The park is not currently organized for visitors, but is used for research and conservation. The Batéké Plateaux form a unique region in central Africa: in the middle of the great dense and humid forest of the Congo Basin, giant dunes suddenly appear, covered by savannahs with varying degrees of trees and cut by sinuous and often crystalline rivers, bordered by forest galleries. At the periphery of the park, one can admire the erosion cirques of the plateaus. The most famous are the pink canyon of Léconi, the white canyon of Lewou and the green canyon of Edjangoulou. They appear in the middle of this hilly landscape as far as the horizon as a gift of nature
