This small agricultural village with mud brick houses is located less than 7 kilometers south of Xela, at the foot of Cerro Quemado, a volcano with a privileged landscape, favored by rock climbers. Also known as "Hortaliza de América", Almolonga is famous for its vegetable production. Considered the most colorful on the continent, they are grown in a vast array of particularly visual microplots, ranging from deep red to bright green. Moreover, its Náhuatl etymology means "place where water gushes forth", referring to the hydraulic wealth of the municipality and the surrounding area: the thermal springs.
