The capital of the department of the same name, Totonicapán is particularly rich in the production of handicrafts such as ceramics, wooden furniture, masks, wool ponchos and belts, and is located 28 km northeast of Quetzaltenango. Apart from its market - held every Tuesday and Saturday - where members of the San Miguel Arcángel brotherhood rub shoulders with the rest of the inhabitants, the municipality offers little in the way of tourist attractions.Like Salcajá, it lives to the rhythm of its fabric factories, where machines are beginning to replace traditional looms. Similarly, more modern clothing is gradually replacing the magnificent huipils. That said, there are still small workshops dedicated to the ancestral manufacture of tablecloths, napkins and skirts.
