It is the highest peak in Central America, culminating at 4,220 metres above sea level. A must-do, its ascent allows you to contemplate the sun rising over the country's volcanic chain, as if emerging from an ocean of clouds. An indescribably beautiful sight, not just for the more athletically inclined, but also for those with a more gentle gradient than Santa María. Beware: the last section ends with some moderate rock-climbing. The descent is equally sublime, offering a breathtaking view of mountains and forests.
