A large beach of volcanic sand, whose dark hue gives it an end-of-the-world feel. The only sound is the swell of the ocean: welcome to El Paredon, Guatemala's corner of paradise. Since the 2010s, this small town 70 kilometers south-west of Escuintla has seen a steady increase in the number of hotels and youth hostels. A boom that's set to become even more widespread, given the success it's enjoyed with surfers, yogi apprentices, travellers looking for a break, young people looking for a night out and a few Guatemalan families fed up with Monterrico. The ambiance is gentle, the sunsets remarkable, the nature lush and the waves good: there's something for everyone and they'll be charmed by the enchanting surroundings.Stretching for a total of 1 kilometer, the village is organized around a main street, part of which was still made of dirt in the late 2010s. To the west lies the "real" Paredon, where the locals live, on the banks of the Río Acome and the Parque Nacional Sipacate-Naranjo.
