The capital of Guipúzcoa in the last century is today an industrial centre that houses some buildings of interest, such as the Convent of Saint Francis or the Consistorial House, as well as many Baroque palaces located in the small historic centre. The seventeenth-century Santa María church, with three naves, vaults and an impressive Baroque façade, is a fine example of Basque Gothic. The town hall, the palaces of Idiakez, Atodo, Aramburu and the Provincial Archives are also worth a visit. Tolosa is also well known to gourmets for its red beans, chuletas (beef ribs), and almond tiles.
