This is the city of iron, as evidenced by the forge of Mirandaola. The development of Legazpi's metallurgical activity was favoured here by the presence of mines, the rich forest and the proximity of the River Urola. The omnipresence of iron in Legazpi attracted the Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida, who came to work on his creations, imagining pieces that he had forged in the industrial forge.
