The city is named after an ancient Indian chief. It was Jumacao. However, in Humacao, there is not much to see of the Taino past. Founded in 1722 and nicknamed the Pearl of the East, this important city in the south of the East Coast has a few museums to tell the history of this land, once rich in sugar cane. The municipality covers 117 km2, including Naguabo to the north, Yabucoa to the south and Las Piedras to the west. The resort includes a protected nature reserve that allows for beautiful walks or kayaking. Contact Water Sports and Eco Tours.
