Barceloneta was founded in 1881 by a Spaniard from Barcelona, Don Bonocio Lenza Feliúpe. He chose this name in reference to the eponymous neighborhood where he grew up. Like its neighbor Manatí, Barceloneta is known for its pineapple cultivation, and in fact nicknamed "la ciudad de las piñas", but also "la ciudad industrial" because it is also a hotbed of the pharmaceutical production industry. The groundwater here is so pure that it does not require any treatment to be used in the manufacture of medicines. However, if you stop by, it will certainly be for shopping, at the Prime Outlets center.
