El Tarter is a small village of just over 800 inhabitants that has grown thanks to the nearby Grandvalira ski area. It is connected to it by ski lifts, taking the tourist to over 2,000 m in a few minutes. It is a large and sunny ski area with a ski and snowboard school, an information point, restaurants, hotels and other services for skiers. In terms of heritage, the church of Sant Pere del Tarter, with its slate roof and frescoes by Ramon Millet and Mercè Bonaventura (1981), as well as medallions by Josep Viladomat, are worth mentioning.
