Nestled in the Cerdanya valley, at an altitude of 1,200 m, this county capital remains an important tourist and leisure center. The mountains, which rise to 3,000 m, offer superb views. Skiing and mountaineering are the mainstays of the economy and life of this town, which has managed to make the most of everything its natural environment has to offer. The surroundings are particularly beautiful, with the surrounding mountains and the almost evergreen valley above which the village has grown. A popular holiday destination for Barcelonians during Setmana Santa, it is also packed with French people in summer.
