It was in Engordany that the first proven traces of human presence were found in Andorra, dating back to the 2nd century B.C. But it was from the 15th century onwards that the hot, sulphurous waters (coming out of the Roc del Metge) made Escaldes famous, and were used for the textile industry. Nowadays, Escaldes-Engordany takes advantage of these waters at almost 70°C and claims to be a spa. It is difficult to distinguish Escaldes-Engordany from Andorra la Vella, as the two towns are joined in a perfect continuity by their main avenues. You can go from one to the other without any transition
