Skútustaðir is the counterpart of Reykjahlíð (15 km away) on the southern shore of lake Mývatn. The facilities are less numerous but the setting, although different, is just as pleasant and exotic. There are many pseudo-craters, cones with more or less bare slopes, topped by a closed crater, which are not real volcanoes but strange formations due to the contact of Mývatn water and lava. Skútustaðir is also known for its winter activities. If you contact the hotel Sel during this season, you can experience horseback riding, golf, bowling and more... on the frozen lake!
