One of the most young volcanic areas in Iceland and still very active. You can see the volcanic site of Leirhnjúkur. On the edge of large ponds with green water, there are beautiful pots pots and the colour and smell of sulfur. It is an active volcanic zone. Several major fissurales eruptions occurred, including between 1977 and 1984. The most recent lava flows, which are still warm and siege, extend to the distance, covering an area of 36   km ². Their black colour stands out on the gray of the older lava. It is important to stay on the trails, and to be careful where you put your feet, because lava is brittle and cut. At the foot of the volcano Krafla (818   m) opens the Explosion explosion crater, "   hell  ", born in 1724, and now filled with a beautiful bluish lake, which slice with the surrounding anthracite lava flows. You can climb at the top of Mount Krafla, where you can see the whole site.
