The small, flat island of Papey is only about 2 km² in size, but is surrounded by numerous other islets and islands teeming with different species of birds, and grey seals can often be spotted on the reefs. Nesting cliffs, 20 to 40 m high, are plentiful and man has long been climbing the rocks to collect eggs. A curious rock formation called Kastali, the "castle", dominates the port of Árhöfn, on the western side of the island. This is where all Papey elves live.
