Situated around the eponymous bay near Höfn, Hornafjördur has just over 2,000 inhabitants over a total area of 260 km. It's a quiet yet dynamic base, with fishing as its main activity, for exploring Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland's largest glacier. Often overlooked by tourists to Iceland, this vast area is dotted with various farms and hamlets, providing a good base for exploring the surrounding area.
