Picturesque village located at the mouth of the river Orne which combines the charm of the countryside with the ecological richness of its maritime wetland. Numerous paths take the curious to discover its Caen stone fishermen's houses, its villas and its magnificent bay. Sallenelles owes its name to one of the oldest activities of its inhabitants, salt production, which reached its peak in the 18th century. The bay and the town were also a strategic area where fighting took place during the Battle of Normandy in 1944. A stele has been erected in memory of the Piron brigade which took part in the liberation of the village.
