This small municipality of 30,000 inhabitants, south-west of Milan, preserves several interesting buildings that testify to the importance of its past: the Castello Visconteo, the symbol of the town, a powerful medieval fortress in red brick embellished by the Viscontis in the 15th century, the Basilica of Santa Maria Nuova, whose Renaissance portico (1497) is the work of Bramante, the church of San Bernardino and the 15th-century convent of the Annunciata, as well as a whole range of ancient churches. Joined by two Navigli canals, the Naviglio Grande and the Naviglio di Bereguardo, the city offers pleasant walks and bike rides
