Half an hour from Olomouc, this town of almost 3,000 inhabitants is best known for its curious castle. The idea of King Ottokar II of Bohemia, this 13th century construction is part of the ancient fortifications. It was built very thinly and seems to have been designed to be no thicker than the city walls, so much so that now that the city walls have disappeared, one wonders how it still stands! Its location just above a body of water makes it all the more photogenic and offers a great opportunity for a romantic stroll to enjoy beautiful views and a timeless atmosphere. The city itself is of little interest.
