Ten kilometers south of Pardubice (trains and buses run frequently every day), this large town was once a Slavic fortified city and has preserved beautiful traces of its prosperous past. Around the Přemyslids' castle, the streets are lined with Renaissance and Baroque houses, as in any typical small Czech town: pretty colored facades decorated with many sculptures. The most beautiful buildings are undoubtedly the Gothic Church of the Assumption (14th century) and the town hall (Radnice). Today, Chrudim is one of the Czech strongholds of the art of puppetry and you will have the opportunity to visit some workshops, in addition to the museum.
