Tovačov, a village of 2,500 souls located 20 km from Olomouc, is an important stop for those interested in history. Here, on July 16, 1866, the Austrians lost a battle against the Prussians during the Austro-Prussian War. Today, a monument commemorating this event can be seen here, even though it was far from being decisive in the war. The main reason to visit Tovačov Castle is the castle, but you can also choose to linger in the historic city center, which has a beautiful central square lined with Renaissance buildings and decorated with a statue of St. Wenceslas and a monumental fountain.
